  1. Given the fog of peace from our (and every other) State Department in this age of lies (the Age of Mendacity), who knows what is going on. In any case, whatever is negative will be declared the result of President Trump. Especially considering all of the accusations made against him at every turn, he is as or more honourable than his predecessors going back many administrations. Sir Henry Wotton (1568-1639), said something like, “An ambassador is an honest man sent abroad to lie for the good of his country.” That is a necessary element in statecraft, and I can’t begin to figure out what is happening here. Just some observations. Khashoggi was a Saudi, subject to the king and sharia and executed on Saudi territory (the Embassy.) Whatever happened however unpleasant, perhaps it is overplayed. Or perhaps not. Khashoggi was not Archduke Ferdinand.

  2. Very astute comment. Marblenecltr. From the beginning, the whole case has smelled like some kind of intelligence retaliation – like Khashoggi was engaged in intelligence work for both sides – possibly a double or triple agent. And like you say, you rarely learn the truth about such activities.
