On The Psychology Of The “Conspiracy Denier” – A closer look at the class that mocks pattern recognition

“Someone who is genuinely curious about the plans of powerful sociopaths won’t limit the scope of their curiosity to, for example, one corporation, or one nation. Why would they? Such a person assumes that the same patterns on display locally are likely to be found all the way up the power food chain. But the conspiracy denier insists this is preposterous.”

“I’m not a ‘conspiracy theorist,’ I’m a conspiracy observer.” Gore Vidal

Tim Foyle

Why is it that otherwise perfectly intelligent, thoughtful and rationally minded people baulk at the suggestion that sociopaths are conspiring to manipulate and deceive them? And why will they defend this ill-founded position with such vehemence?

History catalogues the machinations of liars, thieves, bullies and narcissists and their devastating effects. In modern times too, evidence of corruption and extraordinary deceptions abound.

We know, without question, that politicians lie and hide their connections and that corporations routinely display utter contempt for moral norms – that corruption surrounds us.

We know that revolving doors between the corporate and political spheres, the lobbying system, corrupt regulators, the media and judiciary mean that wrongdoing is practically never brought to any semblance of genuine justice.

We know that the press makes noise about these matters occasionally but never pursues them with true…

  1. Conspiracy theory is a term weaponized by the CIA and can be used to simply dismiss any POV that doesnt fit with the preestablished worldview of a given individual. It can be used to dismiss anything.
    For example:
I have a colleague that is a big fan of Obama. I introduced her to the critiques of Obama by Black Agenda Reports a couple of years back. A year or so later we chanced to reference that material in a conversation. She said that what I had referred to her were conspiracy theories, presumably because it painted Obama in a negative light, not because it was made up or untrue. It simply did not fit her preestablished worldview that Obama was a black hero; something most blacks still believe. The notion that he isn’t can be dismissed as conspiracy theory, regardless of proofs to the contrary.

  2. Exactly; I’ll be bold and add that Obama is an extremely dangerous evil man; and so is George Bush along with so many others! That will get all kinds of people who adulate or put him on a pedestal that lack a real genuine objective viewpoint through careful analysis of the facts and truth; causing them to say I’m some nut or crackpot conspiracy theorist, but I’m not, and I’ve studied him enough to see his patterns of behavior and thinking, besides all the lies and cover-ups that have transpired and still do since his eight dark years for America, when he was a fraudulent Commander in Chief; even the way that Biden now is! All of it part of a deep dark underbelly of lies and nefarious plans being carried out Vis-à-vis the Corrupt to the core Dem Party and Deep State.

We’re living on borrowed time with all of this corruption and fraud stealing the limelight and running the show, while filling younger people’s minds with an off balance, untrue narrative of our government and what’s going on around them; for them to grow into becoming minions of the nefarious! The bubble has to burst at some point! These people who would try slamming me to the mat are in need of a reality check, but they would rather go on believing falsehoods and maintain their desired irrational fantasy belief system that works for them. As an example, all of the rioting and carnage during last summer across the Nation that was condoned and promoted to continue by major Dem party figures with ultimately no real culpability for any of these despots and criminals; this all goes back to those eight Dark Years of Obama’s corrupted administration! That even in itself should scare the hell out of most Americans pointing out just how out of control the system is and what kind of twisted wicked people are in positions of authority and power!

    • Its an all purpose weapon. It can be used to belittle and denounce any non-mainstream POV. The perfect propaganda weapon. Not only does it derogate the protagonist, it also scares others away from such topics, to avoid the stigma associated with the term. Many People who consider themselves sophisticated and savvy do not want to have their images sullied by the label ‘conspiracy theorist.’
Even when the evidence is staring them in the face day after day. Dashing back and forth as it were across the sky. Though it be written across the sky, those who have been brainwashed by the term ‘conspiracy theory’ will not see it. Right in front of their eyes and they still cry ‘conspiracy theory.’

      • Very good description of this effect the term has on people and how powerful a tool the stigma of being labeled one of these conspiracy theorists can be. To me it goes hand in hand with the Dem party and their overall Nazi Gestapo Rule Book like tactics of denigrate, intimidate accuse, accuse, accuse and deny, deny, deny while blaming the opposition of doing all the things you are! Couple this with how well they use the weaponized accusation to destroy the opposition’s credibility, and character assassinate just about anyone once they begin such a campaign; which they will go to just about any ends to make it work! We saw how extreme they were with the Collusion Delusion and how much time, energy and resources they expended to destroy Trump’s Presidency! Oh how they concocted a 35 year ago teen party imaginary rape against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, before he won his appointment of Supreme Court Justice! This is all beyond sick and criminal it’s actually evil, which doesn’t speak well of what’s happened to America; and we citizens having any hope of a great Nation under God anytime soon! More like a hellhole below Beelzebub will be what we get if the Dem party gets carte blanche! Where is the rule of law and fair play, let alone following the Constriction and any form of accountability?

        • To be fair, Dems are not the only ones accusing and denying. They are just one arm of the propagandists. I would say theyre the left arm but I dont want to sully the term “left”. The only thing worse than Dems are the Reps. And Trump was the worst president since the former worsts, Obama and Dubya, who were tied for the title until Trump. Biden has some big shoes to fill if he wants to be worse than whats gone before. Geez. Our presidents get worse and worse. I have no doubt that Kamala will be even worse than them.
