Longtime residents and family farmers are pitted against big corporations. In this competition for a scarce natural resource, those who can afford to drill the deepest wells are the ones who get the water, while those who can’t are forced to abandon their property.
Draining Arizona: Residents say corporate mega-farms are drying up their wells
Over-pumping of groundwater has been a problem across rural Arizona for generations. Historically, as groundwater levels inched lower, wells like Reynolds’ went dry here and there.
But in certain areas, the groundwater is dropping faster than it has in decades, driven by a recent influx of corporate farms that are placing intense stress on the aquifer, experts say.
That’s set off a battle for water in this dry region, pitting some longtime residents and family farmers against big corporations. In this competition for a scarce natural resource, those who can afford to drill the deepest wells are the ones who get the water, while those who can’t are forced to abandon their property.

Well, Rosaliene, every day that passes, I become more and more convinced that we need to take it down. That the only way to save the planet is to dismantle capitalism.

IMO capitalism is a virus that thrives in the sewage of man’s patriarchal civilization. To bring down capitalism requires a global attitude and awareness reset. That can only happen if all of civilization collapses world wide. This isn’t something that “man” will choose to do but capitalism is likely the disease that will bring down civilization and then itself as its host dies. Very few are going to realize how deadly is the corruption called capitalism so it won’t be people as such who will bring about the downfall of their global society except as they continue to drain their world, its resources and their own health in vain efforts to sustain capitalism as a viable operating system. I predict that from this day forward we are going to see the ultimate end of capitalism but nothing which the population of earth would automatically accept as an alternative will be brought forth to prevent the complete collapse. That is as it should be: civilization is utterly corrupt and beyond fixing. Even “God” has obviously given up on it. I think you’ve have said something really profound, Sha’Tara. Without the oppression of women and all the free labor they provide, capitalism wouldn’t be possible. I have a strong sense that women’s growing reluctance to provide free labor may be partly responsible for the global economy tanking in 2008 (and failing to recover).

I’m glad you keep reminding all of us that the global economy HAS NOT RECOVERED. It is so easy to go along with the circus act and to believe the propaganda that “we’re experiencing the greatest economy ever” to loosely quote the unmentionable.
