Nothing to Hide
Directed by Mark Meillassoux (2017)
Film Review
This documentary, featuring NSA whistleblowers Williman Binney, Thomas Drake and Edward Snowden, challenges the dismissive attitude (Who cares? I have nothing to hide) of many Smartphone and Internet users towards government agencies and corporations that collect all their personal data.
Binney, Drake and Snowden maintain everyone has something to hide. For example, health information collected by dating sites and sold to insurance and pharmaceutical companies. And the 60% of us who engage in minor lawbreaking. And all the free speech activities (following the Christchurch shooting, New Zealand is a prime example) that used to be legal but are illegal now.
Binney and Drake are particularly concerned about all the data governments collect on us – allegedly to protect us against terrorism. Even though mass surveillance hasn’t prevented a single terrorist act. Which is no surprise when you understand the true purpose of mass surveillance. Namely to protect governments against us, ie to suppress activities that might undermine the power of the oligarchs who control our so-called democracy.
To demonstrate this point, the filmmakers interview an East German human rights activist, who has kept the thousands of records the Stasi kept on her prior to reunification. In addition to recording all her phone calls and meetings with fellow activists, 49 friends, including her boyfriend, made regular reports to the Stasi on all her movements and activities.

I’ve got quite a lot to hide; the money that I have hidden offshore, the fact that I used to be quite a good stripper, also the fact that I once dated Osama bin Laden and was going to marry him if Seal Team 6 hadn’t arrived on the scene to stop our wedding and now my love has been ‘deep sixed’, not to mention the illegal counterfeiting operation I had going on until my co-conspirator ran off with the plates and last but not least, I was trying to hide the fact that I am married to three different men.
So yes, this upsets me greatly to know that I thought I was hiding those things quite well only to realize from this blog that, nope…not at all.
Thanks for clearing that up Dr. Bramhall. I can only strive to do better at my attempts to hide the shit I do from the gummint.

Shelby, I was already aware of your affair with bin Laden – but not the other stuff. My own shady past pales in comparison.

not sure where i got this quote but it is chillingly astute
“America’s ‘Domestic Surveillance Directorate‘ – a website run by the NSA – makes the worryingly Orwellian statement: “Your Data: If You Have Nothing to Hide, You Have Nothing to Fear” (literally, it does say that) that should make most of us even more suspicious of their intentions.”

When I fell victim to these UN-Constiontual acts, the hateful Patriot Acts, I had nothing to hide and was doing nothing wrong both on and offline. Still, extremely criminal secret service members and their hired contractors, behind the scenes, hacked into my computer and emails before my very eyes, less than two weeks till a much awaited (7 1/2 years) settlement conference.
My husband was killed, sent to his death, and he died horridly, going down in global history as the sickest, most injured human being to survive the catastrophic injuries that he died (less than 5-8%, downgraded to 1-3%) at Maryland’s Shock Trauma, at a military industrial (Wall Street Owned JP Morgan) complex. They used the Patriot acts to come after me.
Bethlehem Steel of Baltimore Co., MD, where he was killed (they refused to touch him as he laid there w/his arm in the air for someone to hold his hand) as I was informed they didn’t want to get their hands dirty (legally).. hired one of the top law firms in the nation, out of Washington, DC, Whiting Taylor and Preston. Their own depositioners whom investigated me early in the case said no court int he land would turn me down.
I’m now a victim of these horrific acts.
Please, pass these bills so I can get my life back. The US government, DOD CIA, vilified me, chased me from my bank till I was broke, chased me from my home, detectives told me it was a nation of traitors to my Constitution and Bill of Rights and they’re using highly advanced weaponized technologies. I’ve suffered great losses I will not go into here. There are many of us now, mostly ladies and seemingly former military members, and a lot of whistleblowers including PhD’s, Scientists, Journalists, and Historians like myself who had a legal claim on them after they killed my husband and covered all of it up. Their mission, as horrible as it was towards me was to keep me from entering a two week promised state level court for justice and they did. My own lawyer sold me out. I witnessed it. The FBI didn’t care to help me, rather laughed at me even recently. We can not function with a nation of traitors to our Constitution. Its impossible.

Lissa, I left the US approximately a year after the Patriot Act was passed, but am well aware that the security agencies of the US are above the law as you describe. When I had a private practice in Seattle, I worked with numerous people who had been targeted for harassment and worse by the FBI and various US intelligence agencies. Good on you for speaking out about your story. Let’s hope Tulsi Gabbard’s bill to repeal the Patriot Act passes next year, and hopefully someone introduces a bill to abolish the FBI and CIA. I don’t believe either agency can be reformed.
