Most observers believe that Donald Trump’s “task force” on the US Postal Service will rubber stamp the White House’s plan to privatize the agency. According to a Government Executive story posted this morning, though, it may be a while before we know exactly what’s in the plan, since Trump apparently wants the report kept under wraps until after the November elections:

I really don’t care what Trump does with the U.S. postal service because it is absolutely useless. The people who deliver the mail think they’re doing us a favor. They hold the mail until my box is flooded and I know damn well that all the mail I receive in one day, did not enter the Post Office all on the same day. Neighbors have to walk back and forth to each other’s homes to hand over wrongly delivered mail. How hard is it to deliver mail? I have not bought a stamp in years and I don’t intend to. Those over paid, lazy, nonchalant assholes need to find out what it means to lose their job since it is quite apparent that they don’t appreciate them. So, whatever Trump does with them is fine by me. Maybe then, they’ll sit up and take notice of just how good they had it when they’re pissing in a bottle at Amazon in order to keep up with ‘orders’.

I’m inclined to agree, Gloria. A lot of older and low income people currently depend on the postal service to deliver legal documents and other important papers because they don’t have access to the Internet. When public services become privatized, for-profit companies normally cut access to poorer communities because it’s not profitable.

I’m really sorry to hear the postal service has deteriorated so badly in the US, Shelby. I wonder if it possibly relates to budget cuts. We have also had major budget cuts here in New Zealand and only have mail delivery 3 days a week. We have had a private delivery service here in New Zealand for about 15 years and they are even less reliable than the NZ post office.

Dr. Bramhall, I have had to get on the phone and place numerous calls to the Postal Service because of its employees and their lack of a work ethic. In my opinion, the Pony Express did a better job, I am sure.
And as for ‘Gloria’, the troll, speaking for me, it would be a great thing for us ALL if we had NO internet, smartphone or any of the so-called modern day technology that has made us dependent on it and brain dead. Maybe then, we’d get up off our asses and get back to how we are supposed to be living if we did not have these devices of ‘convenience’ and distractions. So, ‘Gloria’ do me a fucking favor and don’t direct anymore comments at me because you don’t have a damn clue as to what I care about.
As for poor people being left out of things due to privatization, the poor are more resilient than you give them credit for, Dr. Bramhall. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Poor people have always made do and they always will. And as a Black person, I should know. No situation over here has ever been worse than that of the Indians or descendants of slaves.
