Last week, a federal prosecutor told a jury that a journalist’s knowledge of terms like “black bloc” and police “kettling” was cause for suspicion. Photojournalist Alexei Wood faced 50 years in prison for getting swept up in a mass arrest during the inaugural protests. He was acquitted Thursday, but 188 others who were arrested during the J20 protests still face 50-60 years each, accused of conspiracy for merely attending.

  1. Well, I am certainly not about to sit somewhere all day and tweet about how Donald Trump is just “the bees knees!” Au contraire! And if what I say about that misogynistic, egotistical, self-centered, bigoted, racist, draft-dodging, serial marrying, megalomaniac gets me a prison sentence, then so be it!

I learned in school that it was barbarian hoards from northern Europe that caused the fall of Rome. But more recently historians have been saying that Rome decayed from the inside. After watching how it seems to be happening in the US, the latter makes much more sense to me.
