In 2014, the chain was the target of public outcry when headlines focused on their bread, which used a type of rubber also found in yoga mats (though other fast food chains and food companies use this additive, Subway bore the brunt of the criticism and eventually phased out the ingredient). In 2015, its longtime spokesperson, Jared Fogle, was convicted of having sex with minors and possessing child pornography. He was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. “headlines focused on their bread, which used a type of rubber also found in yoga mats.”
So, the bread was ‘rubberbread’? Outrageous! And to think that we are supposed to have agencies in place to protect US from eating ‘rubber sandwiches at Subway and from eating soy that’s advertised as chicken. Those regulatory agencies are working on overtime to not work, that’s for sure. But then when corporations are allowed to regulate themselves, this is what happens. Corners are cut, budgets are squeezed and customers are eating rubber yoga mats and soy meat. But the really ‘good’ news is that in 2018, Subway will be selling footlong rubber yoga mats filled with soy meat for only $5 a piece. “Bon Appétit” Oh, my bad! Subway says they’ve stopped serving ‘rubberbread’ and soy chicken. Yeah! I believe that one!
It was bad enough when Jared Fogle was convicted and now this? These ‘food chains’ aren’t faring so well now, are they? Papa John’s founder was fired from his position for going at it with the NFL over the players taking a knee and now, he is “taking a knee” out the door, Chipotle continues to have an e coli scandal with yet another recent outbreak. Sales at Applebee’s and Ruby Tuesday’s are way down and I hear that McDonalds is only starting to make a comeback because they have re-introduced a new ‘value meal’. I can only add that if you can read this and still head inside one of these restaurants, then there is just no hope for you because as far as I cam concerned, it would seem better to take a chance at the local grocery store, fix your own meal and hope for the best.

I hadn’t hear about Papa John’s founder getting fired, Shelby (embarassingly I never heard of Papa John, Chipotle, or Ruby Tuesday – they must have gotten big after I left the US in 2002). But that surely is poetic justice. Has Trump killed the NFL the way he promised he would? The whole issue has gone rather quiet recently.

We shall surely see if Trump has killed the NFL when it’s Super Bowl time! We’ll see how much the advertisers pay for a nanosecond spot and if it’s anything like it has been, then Trump has had no impact. Not to mention if the NFL will be able to line up some BIG name entertainment for the Super Bowl, we’ll see how that plays out as well.
I’m not much of a football fan and so I am not so sure if Trump has had much effect on the NFL other than what I hear, locally. And the people here are still talking rather avidly and heatedly over their respective teams.
But really, you have missed nothing except some e coli in your burrito at Chipotle and Ruby Tuesday isn’t even worth driving past, much less, stopping to go in. Oh, and Papa John’s founder was a flaming racist to begin with and so therefore, “Good riddance to him!” I say!
