US drone strikes double in Somalia, triple in Yemen under Trump administration: Report

There has been a sharp rise in the number of US drone strikes in Yemen and Somalia since US President Donald Trump took office, says a report [by London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism].

In March, Trump gave the US military authority to carry out airstrikes without notifying the government in regions designated as areas with “active hostilities.”

“In Yemen, 30 strikes hit within a month of the declaration being reported – nearly as many as the whole of 2016. Most of the 125 strikes in 2017 hit in central Yemen, where the US military’s Central Command vigorously pursued fighters from al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP),” said the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Yemen has come under regular US drone strikes, with Washington claiming to be targeting al-Qaeda militants while local sources say civilians have been the main victims.

The London-based NGO noted that the number of strikes doubled in Somalia and tripled in Yemen since Trump began his term in January 2017. . .

  1. I just read a report the other day that thanks to Trump, deportations of Somalis back to Somalia is on the rise. So, he is blowing the country to bits while at the same time sending Somalis back to be drone struck on his authority.

And isn’t Saudi Arabia also bombing Yemen? So, why does the U.S. need to help Saudi Arabia in destroying what’s left of Yemen? Overkill, I suppose. For the love of !!!!!!!

  2. Wow, I hadn’t heard that about deporting Somalis. The whole situation is especially ironic given that CIA-back jihadists started the civil war in Somalia to begin with. I am also quite mystified as to what the strategy is here. Maybe with China increasing its investment in Africa and the Middle East, Trump is trying to totally destroy any possible economic base they would take over.

    • Dr. Bramhall, the news about Somali deportations is straight out of Minnesota where there is a huge population of Somali refugees. They just deported a Somali-born man who was a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. So, I guess he will be needed in Somalia since those people will surely have heart attacks seeing drones headed their way as well as everything else that’s going on over there.
