Seaspiracy: What You Should Know About Fish, the Ocean and More
Directed by Ali Tabrizi (2015)
The world’s oceans, which are essential to the biosphere that supports human life (oceanic phytoplankton produce 80% of atmospheric oxygen) are in grave crisis. This short documentary raises the alarm about numerous oceanic life forms facing rapid extinction. The filmmakers identify two main causes: ocean acidification to to elevated CO2 concentrations and over fishing.
Most of the film focuses on the collapse of important fish stocks due to wasteful and destructive technologies, such as bottom trawling, and the buildup of toxic chemicals such as mercury and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls).
I was very surprised to learn that only a minority of the fish caught in commercial nets wind up on the dinner plate. Most are either discarded (dead) as “bycatch” or ground up to make fish pellets for factory farmed livestock and shrimp.
The solution proposed by the filmmakers is for everyone to become vegan. Unfortunately they don’t explore the more realistic option of dismantling capitalism.

THIS IS WHAT EVIL OVER THE TOP PRODUCES, CORRUPTION AND GREED ALWAYS HAS A TOLL. THOSE WHO ARE LIVING IN THEIR IVORY CASTLES WILL TO EXPERIENCE THE PAIN OF HUNGER AND HARDSHIP. IT IS TOO BAD THAT THE GLOBAL ELITE CABAL HAVE TO MAKE UNDERGROUND BUNKERS FOR THEMSELVES, FOR THE MISERY THEY CAUSED. DO THEY NOT THINK THAT EARTHQUAKES CAN DESTROY THEIR BUNKERS??? THEY ARE EVEN TOO NEAR THE FOREST TO EVEN SEE THE TREES, AND REALIZE THEY ARE NOT JUST PRODUCING TYRANNY FOR US, BUT IN THE LONG RUN FOR THEMSELVES AS WELL. GLOBAL ELITE CABAL YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL, THERE IS A HEAVENLY FATHER CREATOR YAHVEH THAT IS, AND YOU SHALL FIND JUST HOW MICROSCOPIC AND INSIGNIFICANT YOU ARE.
It strikes me as incredibly arrogant that a few rich white men can systematically destroy the biosphere that supports us all for the sake of greed.
We don’t care Dr. Bramhall! We love feeding the beast, capitalism! We even put ourselves in hock to feed the beast when we don’t have the money. Credit cards, everyone?!!! And as for the sea life, who gives a damn about some poor dead fish, we’ve got some shrimp on our plate and ain’t that great? I’ll sweat this if I go to the supermarket and it’s closed. Then, we’ll riot and kill each other and to hell with veganism, we shall continue to be carnivorous. We shall continue to count on this planet to sustain us until it no longer does and then we’ll worry about it. That’s how we roll.
Thanks Dr. Bramhall, for once again, attempting to get through to us over just how fucked we are, but we don’t care, see?
To be honest, Shelby, I think the vast majority of people don’t really know what they think – they’re too confused with all the lies they’re being told. I just returned from a trip to Portland to visit my daughter and new grandson and I’m incredibly impressed with all the lifestyle changes I see in their local community (neighborhood). It’s really clear that young people, at least, are making a concerted effort to slow the destruction of the biosphere.
I guess we may need to look to the younger generations for real solutions to these problems. I only hope it happens in time.
Thanks for your comment.
